Bike Check: Jay Cowley’s Custom Dipped GT

He runs one of the best bikes shops in the south west, keeps his bikes super-dialled, and is one of the steeziest and smoothest riders on the scene: Jay Cowley knows what’s up. With a change to a longer GT Globetrotter frame setup and a new custom hydro-dip paint job, we thought it was time to do a fresh bike check with the man himself.

What custom mods have you made to your bike?
Ti bolts in stem and seatclamp, the new hydro dip colourway, and still running tubeless on the wheels.
What’s the newest part on your bike?
Frame and grips…
What’s the oldest part on your bike – any part you just won’t change?
My original Macneil pivotal seat post, it has been cut down but is still in there.
How often do you put together a new set-up?
I just tend to change things when worn out…
How good are you at keeping the thing dialled?
I do look after my bike often, as working and owning a bike shop there’s nothing worse that a bag-of-shit feeling bike..
What else is new – what are you planning next?
Just released a new GT video a few weeks ago from when I went to La Poma, had a super-good time and great feedback from it so can’t wait for the next.
Currently filming a little ‘welcome to the family’ for SCG Shoes which will be done in the next week or two. And heading out to Shire jam in a few weeks, then back out to Malaga in September. Then maybe a trip over the pond to the US before the end of the year.
